Truck crashes through fencing after police break up attempted street race downtown
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A truck drove through security barriers that had been set up for the Pittsburgh Marathon on Saturday night. Around 11 p.m., according to police, 50 cars gathered in an attempt to street race until officers arrived on the scene. After the police arrived, the cars dispersed from the scene and that's when a truck drove through the fencing set up at the Boulevard of the Allies and Stanwix Street. No one was injured in the incident and no arrests have been made. Replacement fencing and barricades were delivered and put into place in time for this morning's race.

Celebration takes place for Frank Conrad's 150th birthday
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A birthday celebration was held at the historic Wilkinsburg Train Station on Saturday on what would've been the 150th birthday of Frank Conrad, the Pittsburgh engineer who developed the technology that would eventually help broadcast radio signals around the world.The celebration, put on by the National Museum of Broadcasting, featured priceless artifacts and memorabilia, a silent auction, and of course, a birthday cake.The transmitter Conrad built in the garage of his Wilkinsburg home would eventually be used to help launch KDKA Radio. "Our phones, the televisions we watch, the radios we listen to, our computers. All of that started with technology all from this genius. A Pittsburgh inventor right here," said Rosemary Martinelli, a board member of the National Museum of Broadcasting.The Frank Conrad Award for Broadcast and Electronic Media Innovation was also given out for the first time, with the inaugural award going to WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham.

Impact weekend for off and on showers
PITTSBURGH — While both days are Impact Days, this weekend won't be a washout. Showers will take a break later this morning. Some peeks of sun may even sneak in around mid-day. Temperatures won't be as warm with highs in the upper 60s. The nuisance showers will return late this afternoon and continue at times through the night. Raindrops will still be falling as the runners line up for the marathon tomorrow morning. Another break looks to come shortly after the race begins. Sunday's Impact Day will also carry the chance for afternoon storms. One or two of those storms could pack gusty to damaging winds. We'll take a break from the rain to begin next week. An unsettled pattern will fire back up again starting on Wednesday.
