Gastropub HopCat, known for its vast selection of craft beer and seasoned Cosmik Fries, has set a Monday opening for its Clinton Township location, the first in Macomb County.

Project BarFly, the west Michigan hospitality group and parent company of HopCat and Stella's Lounge, announced in January that a location was scheduled for the Mall at Partridge Creek in Clinton Township. Originally, plans were for an early summer opening of the bar and restaurant at 17380 Hall Road.

HopCat is opening in a 7,000-square-foot space previously occupied by BurgerFin, which closed in early 2023. This location features a wraparound bar featuring 42 taps of locally curated craft beer plus its menu of classic comfort food, including its famous Cosmik Fries.

Inside, the restaurant and bar will seat more than 300 people amid booths and patio seating. There's also a private event space for up to 50 people.

Grand opening includes free Cosmik Fries

At 11 a.m. on Monday, May 6, HopCat Clinton Township will open with a public housewarming. An invitation-only ribbon-cutting ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. on May 9.

HopCat's grand opening will follow later in the week and is set for a 10 a.m. opening on May 11. For the grand opening, the first 100 guests in line will receive free Cosmik Fries for one year, HopCat swag, and other giveaways. Guests can begin lining up at 6 a.m. on May 11, no sooner. Dine-in guests will receive HopCat promotional items and special gifts while supplies last.

Like other HopCat locations, the Clinton Township venue features a music theme décor throughout the space, including a wall adorned with classic vinyl record covers of famous musical artists.

"It’s an honor to return to find our new home at The Mall at Partridge Creek," said Kara Snyder, general manager of HopCat Partridge Creek in a news release. "After five years at HopCat Detroit, I am thrilled to expand our brand, and I am confident that my team of over 100 passionate team members will provide unforgettable experiences."

The Clinton Township location marks the 10th Michigan HopCat location and 12th overall. (HopCat has locations in Nebraska and Indiana.) In 2023 HopCat opened two new locations. The gastropub returned to Royal Oak after shuttering in 2020, to a new space on Main Street. A Livonia location on Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile roads opened last summer.

Before Monday's opening, HopCat is partnering with the Humane Society of Macomb County. During its soft opening weekend, HopCat will support the organization by matching up to $5,000 of all money raised through alcohol sales and donations.
