Armaan Franklin & Kihei Clark Continue NBA Pre-Draft Workouts
By Matt Newton,2023-06-07
Reece Beekman may have withdrawn his name from the NBA Draft , but there's still a chance for a couple of other now-former Cavaliers to earn an opportunity to play at the next level. Former Virginia guards Armaan Franklin and Kihei Clark have participated in a few pre-draft workouts over the last few weeks and both players worked out with the Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks earlier this week.
In late May, both Franklin and Clark had a chance to work out with NBA teams close to home, as Clark, a native of Woodland Hills, California, worked out with the Los Angeles Lakers and Franklin returned to his home city of Indianapolis to participate in a workout with the Indiana Pacers .
Armaan Franklin has since participated in at least three more pre-draft workouts with the Orlando Magic, Charlotte Hornets, and Atlanta Hawks. Clark also worked out with the Hornets and Hawks, but the two Cavaliers worked out with each team on alternate days. Franklin worked out with the Hornets on Monday and the Hawks on Tuesday, while Clark worked out with the Hawks on Monday and the Hornets on Tuesday.
While it's still unlikely that Franklin or Clark will hear their names called on draft night, these pre-draft workouts are big steps in the right direction as they raise each player's chances of getting NBA opportunities after the draft. The relationships Franklin and Clark are building with these teams and coaches could pay dividends later this year as they try to sign as undrafted free agents, participate in the NBA Summer League in July, and receive invitations to preseason training camps. The 2023 NBA Draft will be held Thursday, June 22nd at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
