Virginia Makes Cut List for Four-Star Point Guard Christian Bliss

Virginia's top point guard target in the recruiting class of 2024 is nearing a decision and the Cavaliers are still very much in the mix. Four-star point guard Christian Bliss cut his recruitment to just four schools on Saturday and UVA made the cut along with Miami, Villanova, and Xavier. 

A 6'4" guard who plays at George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania, Bliss is coming off of a fantastic junior season that saw him earn all-state honors in Pennsylvania as the non-PIAA Player of the Year after averaging 20 points and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 56% from the floor and 43% from three. On3 and Rivals both have Bliss rated as a four-star point guard, with On3 ranking Bliss the No. 72 overall prospect in the class of 2024, the No. 11 point guard in the country, and the No. 5 recruit in the state of Pennsylvania. 

Bliss received offers from more than a dozen programs, but has now cut his list to just four schools - two ACC programs and two Big East programs. Villanova is considered the frontrunner in his recruitment, as the Wildcats hosted Bliss on his only official visit so far back in April. According to On3's Joe Tipton, Bliss is planning on taking official visits to each of his other finalist schools in the near future before making a decision. 

When discussing his four finalists with On3, Bliss had this to say about Virginia: 

“I have a great relationship with the coaches. Coach Tony Bennett played in the NBA himself as a point guard so he’s someone I could learn a lot from. Just the way they develop guards like myself is something I really like about them a lot.”

One of UVA's other priority targets at point guard in the recruiting class of 2024, Daniel Freitag, had Virginia in his top five this week, but ended up committing to Wisconsin on Friday. That leaves Christian Bliss, Trent Perry (Studio City, CA) and Travis Perry (Eddyville, KY) as UVA's main point guard targets in this class.
