Virginia incoming freshman forward Blake Buchanan was one of 35 players invited to participate in the 2023 USA U19 Men's National Team Training Camp, as announced by USA Basketball on Wednesday afternoon. The training camp will be held starting June 11th at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and will determine the 12-player roster to represent Team USA at the 2023 FIBA U19 Men's World Cup Championship, which will be played June 24-July 2 in Debrecen, Hungary.

In order to be eligible to participate in the training camp, the player had to be a U.S. citizen and born on or after January 1, 2004. The USA Basketball Men's Junior National Committee selected the 35 players to participate in the training camp, with 10 of the participants being college players who just finished their freshman seasons, 14 of the players being from the high school class of 2024, and Buchanan was one of 12 players selected from the high school class of 2023.

A 6'11" forward from Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, Buchanan committed to Virginia in July 2022 and signed his National Letter of Intent to come to UVA in November. Buchanan just put the finishing touches on a distinguished high school basketball career, averaging 15.2 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.9 blocks, and 1.9 steals and leading Lake City to an undefeated season and the state championship. Unquestionably the best basketball player in Idaho this year, Buchanan swept the annual awards as Idaho's Mr. Basketball, Gatorade Player of the Year, and MaxPreps Player of the Year. Buchanan also suited up for Team USA at the Nike Hoop Summit back in early April in Portland, recording eight points, eight rebounds, and a steal.

Team USA will participate in the 2023 FIBA U19 Men's World Cup Championship from June 24-July 2 in Debrecen, Hungary. Eight-time winners of the competition, the United States is in Group B along with Lebanon, Madagascar, and Slovenia.
