The Virginia football program landed its first commitment in the recruiting class of 2023. Ethan Minter, a three-star athlete and Virginia native, announced his commitment to UVA on Thursday afternoon.

A talented 6'1" athlete out of Thomas Dale High School, Minter chose Virginia over fellow in-state finalists Virginia Tech, James Madison, and Liberty. Minter also received offers from Maryland, Old Dominion, and Marshall. Bronco Mendenhall's staff spotted Minter early on, as UVA was the first program to extend a scholarship offer to him back in spring 2021. Tony Elliott and his staff re-offered Minter in December and the Cavaliers quickly became the favorite to land his commitment once again. Minter took one final visit to UVA last weekend before announcing his commitment to Virginia on Thursday.

Minter just finished a decorated career as a dual-threat lefty quarterback at Thomas Dale, but UVA envisions Minter as an athlete capable of contributing on both sides of the ball, projecting as either a safety or a wide receiver. 247Sports rates Minter as a three-star prospect and ranks him as the No. 171 athlete in the country in the class of 2024 and the No. 37 recruit in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

That UVA's first commitment in the recruiting class of 2024 is an in-state recruit is a great sign for the Cavaliers, given the added emphasis Tony Elliott and his staff have placed on winning recruiting battles for the top high school players in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Wahoos are certainly hopeful that Minter will be the first of many Virginia natives to be part of the 2024 UVA football recruiting class.
