    Fourth Officer Dies Following Shootout In Charlotte Neighbrohood

    A fourth police officer died following a shootout between a suspect and a U.S. Marshals task force in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday (April 29).

    Two of the deceased officers were identified as Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott . Both worked for the Department of Adult Corrections and were assigned to the task force.

    Joshua Eyer , who was a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, was shot while responding to the scene and died from his wounds in the hospital .

    "I am truly grateful for his bravery, service, and ultimate sacrifice. He will never be forgotten, and we are forever indebted," Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings wrote on X .

    A deputy U.S. Marshal was also killed.

    A total of eight officers were shot after the suspect opened fire when the task force tried to serve a warrant on a convicted felon who was in possession of an illegal firearm. The injured officers are in stable condition.

    The suspect, 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes, Jr ., was shot and killed by officers . Officials initially believed there were more than one shooters, but after interviewing a woman and a 17-year-old who were in the house, they believe Hughes was the only shooter and was moving between rooms in the home as he shot at officers during the hours-long standoff.
