Willie Green on Brandon Ingram, stringing wins together | Pelicans vs Hornets 3/23/23
Pelicans head coach Willie Green
On closing out a critical victory:
“I liked our start to the game. I thought we got off to a great start. Our second half defense, we held them to 39 points, and offensively CJ (McCollum) and BI (Brandon Ingram) had no turnovers. They just set the tone. JV set the tone, and our starters,
so no matter who our opponent is, it is important for us to carve out our wins at this time in the season.”
On Brandon Ingram’s first career triple-double:
“I think it speaks to his maturity throughout this process. He understands that he’s going to have the ball in his hands at times. He’s doing a great job of setting the tone, passing to his teammates, getting guys open and rebounding has been huge for us. He’s doing that and then we all know he can score at any moment. So, on all three levels tonight, he was fantastic.”

On his mindset during his 17-point first quarter:
“I just wanted to set the tone. This game was very important for us to be in the postseason. I knew that every possession counts on the offensive and defensive end. I wanted to have a sense of urgency that would trickle down to the rest of the team for the rest of the game.”
On what it means for him to get his first career triple-double:
“Sitting down thirty games, having the chance to come out here and play with my teammates, I don’t take it for granted. I’m grateful for it every single day and I just want to continue to push. My teammates make me better every single day and
hopefully I make them better too and we keep going.”

On Brandon Ingram’s triple-double performance:
“I think he can do it every night. I’ve had those talks with B (Brandon Ingram) before every game. I really feel like he is capable of doing that every night. I’m proud of him and hopefully this is the start of something great.”
On coming in with the second unit and trying to make an impact:
“I just play as hard as I can. Running the floor, crashing the glass, offense and defense, guarding my man and just being in the right spots. I just do whatever is best for my team.”
