Teen charged with 16, 21-year-old’s murder on The Plaza

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A teenager is facing murder charges after two people were killed in a shooting on The Plaza in northeast Charlotte Sunday night, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police said officers responded to the shooting around 9:30 p.m. on March 19 in the 4400 block of The Plaza.

When officers arrived, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Medic pronounced both of them dead at the scene. The victims were later identified as Michael Brown Jr., 21, and Jareese Florybert, 16. CMPD later announced that on Wednesday a 16-year-old suspect had been arrested and charged with murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene on Sunday to conduct an investigation.

Victim services, operations command, CSI, the DA’s Office, Medic, and CFD were among the departments that responded to the scene. Det. Dossett is the lead on the case.
