CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) has announced that its staff will be performing deer spotlight surveys across all WVDNR districts in August and September.

During these surveys, WVDNR staff will drive specific routes at night, using spotlights to count deer from county roads. This technique helps estimate the deer population, which is crucial for effective wildlife conservation and management.

The surveys are planned from July 29 to August 12 and from August 26 to September 11, starting half an hour after sunset. Residents may see clearly marked WVDNR vehicles equipped with spotlights along these routes during the survey period.

The spotlight surveys are carried out safely and responsibly, with precautions in place to minimize any disruption to residents and wildlife.

For questions, residents can find contact details for their district WVDNR office at WVdnr.gov/contact .
