A humane association is offering vet care to those in need.
Fix Charleston, at the Kanawha County Humane Association, had a free wellness clinic for those who experience homelessness. Free services included vaccines, microchips, and basic sick exams.
Angie Gillenwater, the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association community engagement manager, explained that early on, they already had a good turnout.
"We've had a great turn out for it to be 9:00 a.m.. We've had two cats and four dogs, and that's two cats and four dogs that are vaccinated and therefore healthier and happier," she said.
Not only will we be offering free vet care services to those experiencing homelessness, we will also have ‘goody bags’ ready for both pets and their owners. These bags include hygienic products, food, snacks, and toys.
Gillenwater explained people have been thankful for Fix Charleston's services.
"I've been able to talk to a lady about her cats. She was super thankful for this opportunity. Because of us being able to vaccinate her cats, she is going to be able to keep them, and keep ownership of them. So, so far very thankful," she said.
The clinic runs from 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. at Fix Charleston located at 1246 Greenbrier Street.
