Students Place in Young Writer’s Competition

Two students from SMHS received wards in the Pleasants County Young Writers competition. The two students, Ryleigh Haught and Karly Starcher, will be honored at ceremonies in Charleston May 5.
WV young writers have been showing off the writing skills of young students and old students since 1984. The founders are deeply committed to keeping the writing and publishing of all subjects in the schools relevant. Teachers push students to write throughout the state and submit for judging.
The judges will be leaders from the central West Virginia writing project at Marshall university judging on these following rules; Ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency and conventions. Any entry must have a minimum of 300 words for grade 1-2; grades 3-4, 500 words;grades 5-6, 800 words; grade 7-8, 800 words; grades 9-10, 1000 words; and grades 11-12, 1,200 words.
