Charles Town police say motorist dies after originally appearing uninjured in crash

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Police in Charles Town say two motorists seemed to be uninjured after a crash Tuesday, but one of them later died.

Police responded to the crash on East Washington Street in the vicinity of Jefferson Avenue at about 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to a release from the department.

“During the course of the investigation, it was determined that a GMC pickup truck was stopped in traffic due to a red traffic signal when a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck failed to conform with the flow of traffic and struck the GMC,” the release said. “The Toyota then traveled off the right side of the roadway where it struck a guy wire, flipping it onto its side.”

Officers said when they arrived on scene both drivers were out of there vehicles and told authorities they were not injured but that changed a short time later.

“The driver of the Toyota experienced a medical emergency at the scene requiring EMS response and subsequent transport to a medical facility where he passed,” news release said.

Charles Town police said the investigation is ongoing.
