Two Tar Heels transfers named to CBS Sports Top 50 list

Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels had a very active transfer portal this offseason.

The program lost seven players to the portal including former five-star guard Caleb Love. But they also added four players to revamp their roster heading into a big 2023-24 season.

Of those four players that UNC landed, two of them cracked CBS Sports’ Top 50 transfer list. Both Harrison Ingram and Jae’Lyn Withers cracked the list that was released last week.

Ingram checked in at No. 10 on the list, transferring from Stanford to North Carolina after just two seasons, including one where he won the Pac-12’s Freshman of the Year award:

It’s possible that a change of scenery is all Ingram needs to recapture the NBA Draft buzz he once enjoyed as a five-star prospect from the Class of 2021. At 6-8, he’s a versatile forward who can play on the block or step out and hit 3-pointers. He’s also a savvy passer who can facilitate the offense. Ingram averaged 10.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists in two seasons with the Cardinal. If he can bring up his career 62.9% free-throw shooting and 31.6% 3-point shooting percentage, Ingram can be a high-impact starter for the Tar Heels.

Withers joined UNC from ACC foe Louisville, as the Charlotte native returns closer to home to continue his career. He was No. 36 on the list:

Somewhere inside the 6-foot-8, 230-pound frame of Withers is an excellent college basketball player and maybe even an NBA prospect. The former four-star prospect earned ACC All-Freshman honors in 2020-21 for a respectable Cardinals’ squad before regressing offensively over the past two seasons amid chaos within the program. Withers ranked as Louisville’s best defender this season, per evanmiya.com, and UNC coach Hubert Davis will have a chance to build off the potential Withers showed earlier in his career.

Love was the only former UNC player on the list, as they ranked him No. 17 overall.
