Jalen Washington's tweet implies he's returning to North Carolina

The 2023-23 roster for the UNC basketball program is starting to take shape early on in the offseason.

So far, five players have entered the transfer portal for the Tar Heels as Dontrez Styles, Puff Johnson, Will Shaver, Justin McKoy and Tyler Nickel have all made their decisions. But the Tar Heels have also received good news with Armando Bacot and R.J. Davis both announcing they will return for another season.

And on Friday, another player made his intentions known with a tweet.

Center Jalen Washington reacted to the news of Davis’ return and it implies that he will also return for his sophomore season at North Carolina. There was a little bit of a question as to whether or not Washington would be back after seeing limited playing time as a freshman last year.

But that appears to be answered now.

Washington saw action in 20 games, averaging 5.6 minutes per game. He averaged 2.2 points 1.4 rebounds and shot 45.7 percent from the field in the limited playing time.

In a loss at Virginia, Washington had his breakout game as he received more playing time due to the injury to Armando Bacot. Washington scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 27 minutes. But after that, he received limited playing time behind both Bacot and Pete Nance.

Washington should see an uptick in playing time this season as Nance won’t be back. There’s a spot open at the 4, which Washington could be an ideal fit for depending on what happens in terms of the transfer portal.
