Pinging The Portal: UC Reportedly Contacts North Carolina Transfer Forward Tyler Nickel

The freshman never quite got rolling in Chapel Hill.

CINCINNATI — UC reportedly reached out to North Carolina transfer forward Tyler Nickel. Jamie Shaw reported the contact as the former four-star forward decides his college future.

Nickel played in 25 games for North Carolina last season after ranking 84th nationally on 247Sports' final 2022 player rankings. He averaged 2.1 points and 0.6 rebounds per game, with a career-high of 16 points against Citadel in November.

Nickel played double-digit minutes in just four games as the Tar Heels fell flat in one of the most disappointing seasons ever by a preseason No. 1 squad.

The 6-foot-7 forward struggled to shoot the ball at UNC (37.5 FG, 22.2% 3FG) but has shown great two-way potential in high school, as well as a deadly outside shot. Nearly 40 teams have reached out so far, as many believe he can still pop at the highest level.

On3 has Nickel ranked as the 24th-best transfer this cycle. Wes Miller appears ready to add talent from his alma mater.
