CARBONDALE — On a Sunday morning earlier this month, Paige Williams lost her once-healthy one-year-old kitten, Louise, to bobcat fever. Bobcat fever is a disease that’s found in bobcats but transferred to outdoor cats by lone-star ticks. A tick would have to bite a bobcat and then bite a house cat for it to be effected. Symptoms of bobcat fever include high fever, jaundice, not eating or drinking, and anemia.

Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Adding Drone for Search and Rescue

MARION – The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday it is adding an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) that will be used for search and rescue situations. Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick says the new UAS is equipped with spotlights, a public address system and forward looking infrared (Thermal) cameras, which provide infrared radiation and night imaging. The new public address system will allow deputies to communicate with people on scene and help deescalate a potentially dangerous situation.

Carbondale, IL woman arrested after Monday morning fight

A Carbondale, IL woman was arrested on assault and weapons charges after police say she fired a gun during a fight. Carbondale Police say at about 7:30 a.m. Monday, officers broke up a fight involving several people in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane. They say their investigation determined that 30-year-old Camille Sanders fired at least one shot. No injuries were reported. Sanders was taken to the Jackson County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
