Wednesday night, Zapata County Sheriff’s Deputies noticed a blue pick-up truck that was going in and out of its lane. Zapata County Sheriff’s Office bust stash house

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Zapata County Sheriff’s Office intercepted a stash house on the 400 block of Medina Avenue. When deputies got to the location, they saw several people trying to run out of the house through a make-shift door. Deputies entered the house and arrested five undocumented men.

Zapata County authorities seize marijuana, arrest 2 men

Authorities in Zapata seized more than 170 pounds of marijuana and an AK-47. The Zapata County Sheriff's Office investigations unit along with deputies searched a residence in the 5300 block of Victoria Lane on March 29. Authorities would discover eight bundles of marijuana wrapped in brown tape inside a red-in-color Ford pickup. The contraband weighed 178 pounds and had an approximate street value of $89,000. An AK-47 rifle was also found inside a separate building located inside the same property, according to the Sheriff's Office. Identified as a suspect in the case, Juan Daniel Benavides was charged with possession of marijuana. During the search, deputies encountered Juan Jose Gonzalez. He was served with a warrant charging him with terroristic threat, family violence.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Bundles of marijuana and an assault rifle were found during one of Zapata County’s latest busts. Juan Daniel Benavides and Juan Jose Gonzalez were allegedly involved in the incident that took place on Tuesday, March 29. According to the Zapata County Sheriff’s Office, their investigation unit and deputies searched a home at the 5300 block of Victoria Lane in Zapata and found eight bundles of marijuana wrapped in brown tape inside a red-colored pick-up truck. The bundles weighed approximately 178 pounds. An AK-47 was also found inside a separate building located in the same property.

County, federal authorities rescue lost migrants in San Ygnacio area

Zapata County authorities and federal agents rescued two migrants who were lost in the brush in the San Ygnacio area. On March 27, the Zapata County Sheriff's Office received information regarding two migrants who were lost in the brush near San Ygnacio. Authorities said the two males were exhausted and without water in the heat. Sheriff's officials relayed the information to the U.S. Border Patrol. Agents were able to locate the migrants using GPS coordinates that one migrant had sent of their location.

Duo arrested for allegedly transporting migrants in Zapata County

Two people were arrested in Zapata County for allegedly transporting three migrants, according to authorities. The Zapata County Sheriff's Office discovered the three migrants following a vehicle stop. Deputies said three occupants failed to provide a form of identification. Authorities later determined the passengers had crossed the border illegally. Deputies contacted the U.S. Border Patrol for assistance. Deputies would identify the driver as Juan Antonio Moreno Jr., 30, and Bertha Elisa Corpus, 41. Each was arrested and charged with smuggling of persons.
