Wyoming County approves deer hunting for 12 and 13-year-olds

WARSAW — A local law allowing 12 and 13-year-olds to hunt deer with adult supervision was approved Tuesday by the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors. The law allows the youths to hunt with rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders or crossbows during the regular seasons. It’s part of a statewide pilot program and will be in effect through 2023.

The Arts Council for Wyoming County (ACWC) kicked off its support of the Hat Not Hate Campaign by hosting a knitting group in their gallery on June 1. Hat Not Hate was launched in 2018 by Shira Blumenthal with support of the Lion Brand Yarn Company. As a former victim of teenage bullying Shira wanted to bring awareness to the problem and to pass along a sense of solidarity and support by passing out blue hats for students to wear throughout the National Bullying Prevention Month in October. There was quite a bit of confusion this past weekend when New York State Department of Health Commissioner Howard Zucker indicated in a letter to the CDC, sent this past Friday, that mask wearing would be optional but “strongly encouraged” for unvaccinated individuals. The letter stated that vaccinated people would not be required to wear masks at schools, and that unvaccinated people would be strongly encouraged to wear them but not required.
