A witness said it never happened. The story goes that Wyatt Earp and Clay Allison had a face off in Dodge City in 1878. But it’s not true. Allison did come to Dodge, demanding that law enforcement be a little nicer to Texas cowboys. He and a group of about 20 men looked ready to take action to enforce their demands. But saloon owner Chalk Beeson (photo) and cattleman Dick McNulty headed them off and convinced them to give up their guns. The cowboys soon left. Wyatt wasn’t part of the event.
