Kay County fire crews arrive in Woodward County

MOORELAND — Members of the Kay County Wild Land Fire Task Force arrived in Woodward County at 7:45 a.m. today to assist fighting the wildfire known as 217 Fire. The fire started Monday afternoon northeast of Mooreland and as of last report from the Oklahoma Forestry Service, has consumed over 19,000 acres.

OSFAWA Collects Supplies For Woodward Firefighters

The Oklahoma State Firefighters Association Women's Auxiliary should be in Woodward by now. They said crews are going through supplies to fight the massive fire. “The heat has been extreme. It's been a bit better today but imagine wearing a heavy coat and long pants in this 100-degree heat and that's what they're dealing with,” Matt Lehenbauer said.

Mooreland wildfire now 60% contained

MOORELAND, Okla. — Progress is being made fighting the massive wildfire in Mooreland, with the Oklahoma Department of Forestry Services reporting it’s now 60% contained. This is a huge leap from what seemed to be an out-of-control situation Wednesday. Strike teams are still hitting pop-ups along the rolling hills. But it’s nothing like it was, because of the containment line wrapping around the 14-mile fire. It’s the size of a four-lane highway.
