New Era One Room School’s haunted house is back

MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. (WTAP) - The New Era One Room School’s haunted house is back and open for business. If you step into this haunted house, you’ll find a hall of mirrors, skeletons, the headless horseman, and more. Tour guide and co-lead organizer David Bunner says it’s all about kids just having fun. He emphasizes that it’s not gory since it’s made so that younger kids can enjoy it too.

Judge sets Nov. 15 date for briefs in school mask lawsuit

PARKERSBURG — A temporary injunction was not granted this week in regards to the mask mandate for Wood County Schools. Court personnel said Tuesday Wood County Circuit Judge JD Beane has given both sides until Nov. 15 to file briefs in this matter to build their cases after a hearing was held Monday.

Parents sue Wood County Schools over mask mandate

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Wood County Schools is facing a lawsuit filed by parents who say the district’s mask mandate is affecting their children’s health. The suit, filed Tuesday by attorney John Bryan on behalf of his clients, John Davis and Felsie Pierce, parents of three Parkersburg High School students, calls for an end to the mandate.

Millions of dollars going toward broadband access in West Virginia schools

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WTAP) -, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced $12,760,030 from the American Rescue Plan for 19 West Virginia schools and libraries as part of the second round of the Emergency Connectivity Fund. This funding is distributed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to help schools and libraries purchase laptops and tablets, Wi-Fi hotspots, modems, routers and broadband connections for students, staff and library visitors.

Two renovation proposals approved by the Wood County BOE

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) -The Wood County Board of Education approved two proposals regarding renovation work to be done at two schools in the county. The board approved the estimated cost and proposal from “Pickering Associates” regarding the Blennerhassett Elementary and Middle School renovations and additions. The project in total will cost $2.02 million. It will provide various upgrades to the schools, such as six new classrooms and developing a new secure entrance for the elementary school.
