Central Wisconsin health departments want people to start wearing masks again as COVID-19 cases surge throughout the region. Marathon, Wood and Lincoln counties all on Friday urged residents to take steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 as they all report high levels of community spread. Portage County's current level of community spread is categorized as medium and has not issued an advisory like other central Wisconsin counties.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wood County officials found out they would receive a historic $14.2 million as part of federal relief last year. The county received half of its allocation last year through the American Rescue Plan Act and expects to receive the other half later this summer. But, for the most part, it's held off on spending, said Lance Pliml, Wood County Board chair.

Two people were injured, one critically, following a Monday night crash in Wood County, officials said. The crash was reported at about 6 p.m. on County Hwy. N near Bethel Road in the town of Richfield. Wood County Sheriff’s officials say the crash involved a passenger vehicle and a dump truck that collided head on.

Wood County authorities believe that lightning may have caused a barn fire in Wood County on Monday. According to the Richfield Fire Department, they received a call of a barn fire around 11:30pm Monday night in the 11600 block of State Highway 10 in the Town of Lincoln, southwest of Marshfield.

On Monday, May 9th, the Wood County Dispatch Center received a call of a motorcycle crash on Hwy X, South of Hwy 54 in the Township of Dexter. In later on scene accounts it was confirmed a single motorcycle crashed. The motorcycle did have a male operator and female passenger. The initial investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Hwy X and lost control when entering a curve.

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAW) - The cause of a barn fire in Wood County is still undetermined, but authorities are investigating if lightning may be the cause. Around 11:30 p.m. Monday night, several departments were paged to the scene of a barn fire on 11600 block of State Highway 10 in the town of Lincoln. That location is southwest of Marshfield.
