ANNIVERSARY: Colstads celebrate 65 years

Larry and June Colstad of Poynette, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Sept. 22, 2021. They were married in Poynette, at the Lutheran Church Parsonage. They were blessed with four children, Guy, Lori (Kevin), Rory (Cheryl), and Heath (Dione). They have 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Poynette's Jamieson Park holds grand re-opening event, celebrating recent changes

Poynette’s Jamieson Park has gone through quite the transformation over the last five years. The park, which was once called John Muir Park, has a different feel than it did in the previous decades. The park was initially named after Muir, who was a Scottish-born naturalist and later immigrated to the Poynette area. Muir is deemed as the “Father of the Natural Parks.”

Wollersheim Winery and Distillery completes grape harvest

PRAIRIE DU SAC, Wis. (WMTV) - Wollersheim Winery and Distillery announced Monday that they have completed another harvest of their 30-acre vineyard. According to Wollersheim, much of the distillery’s vineyard is picked by machines. The grapes are then transported to be destemmed and crushed or pressed, depending on the wine being made.

Muir Park Invasive Plant Field Day planned

Golden Sands Resource Conservation & Development and the Central Wisconsin Invasives Partnership will host the Muir Park Invasive Plant Field Day from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at John Muir Memorial Park, N1424 Highway F, Montello. Attendees will learn about park history, invasive plant identification and control, and how to report invasive plants using the GLEDN smartphone app. Lunch will be provided, and after lunch attendees will remove invasive plants on-site.

LETTER: 200 fish caught at Elks Kids Fisheree

On Aug. 22, the Portage Elks Lodge 675 held its 36th annual Kids Fisheree at Paquette Park. The park was in top shape and we had a bluebird day. There were 74 young anglers accompanied by parents and grandparents. This is truly a family event with 210 fish caught and prizes awarded in fish categories. Two bikes were given as grand prizes in a drawing. No one walked away empty handed, each contestant received a prize bag with fishing lures, bobbers, candy and Elks Drug Awareness literature. Also, on hand were Officer Ben Neuman with K-9 Ares, County Deputy Nate Fredrick, firefighters Matt Asch and Mat Gavinski with Tower 1.

Marquette County Farm Bureau sponsors 1/2 price ice cream event

The Marquette County Farm Bureau hosted a great ice cream promotion from noon to 6 p.m. last Saturday, September 4th, at the Montello Candy Store and It’s Poppin in Westfield. Single scoop ice cream cones and dishes were half-price during from noon to 6 p.m. and were enjoyed by lots of customers at both locations.
