Local Health Officials Anticipating COVID Booster Shot

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Local health experts are anticipating the need for a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot as the virus continues to mutate. “Time will tell in all of these but it does appear that we will be dealing with this virus for some time to come,” Winona Health President/CEO Rachelle Schultz said. “My guess would be that we will be doing boosters come fall.”

Winona poets laureate launch anthology

On Thursday, June 24 at 6 p.m. there will be a book launch of the recently-published anthology, “Crossings: An Anthology of the Poets Laureate of Winona Minnesota,” edited by Ken McCullough, published by Shipwreckt Books. The event will take place at the Winona County Historical Society at 120 Johnson Street in Winona. The readers will be James Armstrong, Ken McCullough, Emilio DeGrazia and Lukas Ramsey, subbing for his sister Nicholle Ramsey. Copies of the anthology will be available for purchase after the reading, as well as copies of books by the participating authors. The anthology is a handsome, 130-page hardcover volume with 40 photographs taken from Winona’s history. Many of the poems relate to Winona historical events and persons and were written primarily during each poet’s tenure as poet laureate.

COVID update

New coronavirus infections continued to dwindle in Winona County with just six new cases in the past week, while Trempealeau County saw a slight uptick after weeks of falling cases. Buffalo County saw a minor rise in cases last week, but there were zero new cases in the last seven days. Police calls for Monday, June 14: Winona man arrested for domestic assault, damage to property

4:38 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 22000 block of Garvin Heights Road for a report of a motorcycle accident. The identity of the victim was not released, but he was reported to have been sent to Winona Health with minor injuries. Alcohol is suspected of being a contributing factor in the crash. Winona County Residents Offered MOA Vouchers for Vaccine Incentive

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Residents of Winona County who get their COVID-19 vaccine between now and July 1 are eligible to receive one of 500 vouchers to the Mall of America. Public Health Supervisor Melanie Tatge said the vouchers are eligible for six ride points at the Nickelodeon Universe, a 2021 Mall of America coupon book, a buy one get one pizza at the Fair on Fourth, or a free popcorn at the MOA movie theater.

Winona County Announces Pop-up COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics at Steamboat Days

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Rides, fair food, live music, and the COVID-19 vaccine will be offered at Steamboat Days next week. Winona County Public Health Supervisor Melanie Tatge said the county will hold a clinic on Thursday, June 17 from 11 am to 2 pm and on Saturday, June 19 from 11 am to 3 pm. She says the county hopes to offer the Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson vaccines.
