Cresco woman hurt in Winneshiek County crash

WINNESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa – A Cresco woman is hurt in a crash in northeast Iowa. It happened around 7:41 am Monday in the northwest corner of Winneshiek County. The Sheriff’s Office says Kerrie Anna Rogne, 31, was driving an SUV west on Iowa Highway 139 when she drifted off to the north side of the road. The Sheriff’s Office says Rogne tried to pull back onto the roadway but overcorrected and started to slide.

Decorah Man Arrested After Weekend Single-Vehicle Crash

A Decorah man was arrested following a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning. The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office says the wreck occurred on River Road about seven miles northeast of Decorah shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning. A Jeep Patriot driven by 33-year-old Alex Snitker of Decorah was eastbound when he deliberately began to fishtail and told a passenger, 34-year-old Jess Slaughter, also of Decorah, to pull the emergency brake, which caused the vehicle to enter the ditch and roll once.

Northeast Iowa Man Arrested on Harassment Charges

A northeast Iowa man was arrested early Thursday morning on multiple harassment charges. The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report just after 2 a.m. Thursday of a vehicle tearing around a citizens property north of Decorah on County Road W40. The citizen was also being harassed by the driver, later identified as 51-year-old Cory Folstad of Decorah.

Einck accepts How-Winn superintendent position

CRESCO - The Howard-Winneshiek Community School District is pleased to announce that a contract for Superintendent of Howard-Winneshiek has been offered to Kris Einck. Mr. Einck is currently the superintendent and high school principal of the South Winneshiek Community School District. He has served in that capacity since 2015. He has also served as a principal, athletic director and vocational agriculture teacher. Three finalists were interviewed for the position on May 9, 2022. Mr. Einck will assume the duties of superintendent beginning July 1, 2022.

The next Superintendent of the Howard-Winneshiek School District is expected to be named this week. The School Board is slated to meet in special session Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Cresco to interview the three finalists to replace outgoing Superintendent Ted Ihns, who is resigning effective June 30th to take over as Superintendent of Indianola Schools July 1st. After the interviews Monday, the board could take action to extend a contract offer to Ihns’ successor. A final decision is expected no later than Thursday, May 12th.
