SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) — Authorities in Santa Rosa on Wednesday morning arrested a suspect in a fatal weekend hit-and-run crash that left a 16-year-old girl dead. Santa Rosa CHP investigators have been working to find the driver of the fatal crash since it happened Saturday morning, authorities said, though they offered no details regarding the fatal collision.

A Santa Rosa man has been arrested in connection with a fiery car crash that killed a 16-year-old girl along Highway 101 over the weekend, authorities said Wednesday. Jhovanne Velazquez, 27, is suspected of driving the Toyota Camry that veered off the freeway and flipped over next to a shopping center parking lot, where it was found engulfed in flames just after 3 a.m. Saturday, the CHP said.

Suspect arrested in assault at Twin Oaks Roadhouse

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office last weekend arrested a man suspected of assaulting a group of musicians in the parking lot of Twin Oaks Roadhouse near Penngrove. Deputies apprehended Trever Wong, a 25-year-old Rohnert Park native, on Saturday. The department booked Wong on a charge of battery with corporal injury to Frankie Boots, a local musician. Wong posted a bail of $35,000 and was released from the Sonoma County jail.

Santa Rosa man found guilty of rape, kidnapping

A jury deliberated just 15 minutes Tuesday before finding a Santa Rosa man guilty in the forcible rape and aggravated kidnapping of a woman in 2019. Rusiate Waqa, 25, of Santa Rosa, faces a mandatory prison term of 25 years to life and will be sentenced on Sept. 9, according to a news release issued by Deputy District Attorney Brian Staebell.

Former Sonoma Mayor David Cook sentenced to 6 years for child molestation

Santa Rosa Identified as Fatal Victim in Fatal Crash South of Santa Rosa

A Santa Rosa teen has been identified as the person who died in a fiery solo vehicle crash in South Santa Rosa this past Saturday. The CHP is still working out the cause of the wreck but they say the deceased is 16-year-old Yaquelin Garcia Magdaleno, who attended Santa Rosa High. She was found by emergency officials in the Toyota Camry which was on fire and on its roof in the Bed Bath & Beyond parking lot. The Camry was going northbound on Highway 101 when it drifted into the right shoulder causing it to go into a ditch, smash through a chain link fence, and hit two trees before coming to a rest. Magdaleno as pronounced dead at the scene.
