19-year-old arrested for homicide in Lansing

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Lansing Police Department has arrested 19-year-old Adolfo Benito Luiz in connection to a homicide in the 1100 block of W. Allegan St. in April. Luiz was found in Lansing Thursday and was arrested without incident. He was arraigned in 54-A District court and charged with one count of homicide – open murder, and one charge of weapons – felony forearms.

Motorcyclist killed in Ingham County crash

(WLNS)– 29-year-old James Houk of Stockbridge died Thursday, after crashing his motorcycle shortly before 2 p.m. According to Michigan State Police, it happened on South M-52 near Morton Road. Troopers believe Houk didn’t handle a curve correctly, causing him to leave the roadway where he hit multiple trees.

The Delta variant, which is now the most prominent strain in the United States, first emerged in India in October 2020 and became a major driver of a second wave of coronavirus infections there.

Governor Whitmer signs legislation to extend drivers licenses

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Governor Whitmer signed Senate Bills 507, 508 and 509 on Thursday, which extend drivers licenses and personal identification card expiration dates. Senate Bill 507 will extend the period for which an operator’s or chauffeur’s license is valid. Senate Bill 507 was sponsored by Sen. Kevin Daley, R-Lum, and a copy of the bill can be found here.

For the last week of July, I have put together a wonderful selection of art fairs and festivals in Michigan for everyone to enjoy. There are a couple of festivals in the Upper Peninsula, some in Northern Michigan, one on the west side, and of course around Metro-Detroit. Wherever you live or want to road trip to this weekend, there is a festival for you and your family. You can enjoy festivals focused on potatoes, blueberries, and even Harry Potter. UPDATE: The material in question has been recovered. A statement that was originally made has been updated here. There's no indication at all of nefarious activity. But when the federal Nuclear Regulatory Agency issues a “Current Event Notification Report", some of us sit up in our chairs a bit. It’s one way of saying some radioactive stuff is missing. A shipment of low-level radioactive material went missing while being shipped to Eaton Rapids – barely 30 miles northeast of Battle Creek. The stuff was shipped out of a small town in Ohio. Back on July 12th. So it’s been out there somewhere for some time. An Ohio state agency that monitors dangerous cargo shipments informed the federal NRC this week.
