Janesville City Council asked to pull trigger on wheel tax increase, relief funding allocations

As the city of Janesville moves deeper into its annual budget planning process, city staff is asking the council to OK a proposal to double the city’s vehicle registration fee, also known as the wheel tax. Welcome back to #FlashbackFriday with the Whitewater Historical Society! Pictured here is a train wreck that most likely occurred on the outskirts of Whitewater on September 30, 1901. An event like this would have been the talk of the town, as evidenced by the amount of people watching the clean up process undertaken by Chicago, Milwaukee, & Saint Paul railroad crews. Interestingly enough, in the 1890s through the 1930s, train wrecks were purposely staged for public entertainment and proved to be rather popular spectacles throughout the country.

Cross country: Fort girls fifth, boys 12 at Warrior Invitational

MUSKEGO — Fort Atkinson’s girls cross country team placed fifth and the boys side was 12th at Saturday’s Warrior Invitational at Lake Denoon Middle School. Freshman Mary Worden finished seventh in 20 minutes, 5 seconds for the Fort girls, which scored 128 points.
