Birchmont’s championship fields set after qualifying-round suspense

Match play of the Birchmont Golf Tournament wrapped up on Tuesday, and plenty of hopefuls are in contention for championships at the Bemidji Town and Country Club. Lucas Johnson of Moorhead fired an 8-under-par 64 on Tuesday to soar atop the men’s division leaderboard. He carded a two-round total of 134, good for 10 under par in qualifying. Weekly Update: 60 new COVID-19 cases in the NW Minnesota 8-county lakes area, a 50% increase in new cases over the previous week

Since July 21, 2021, the state reported an additional 2,796 COVID-19 cases, totaling 611,458 for the entire pandemic, and 16 new deaths in the last seven days, totaling 7,660 for the entire pandemic. Currently, Becker County reported 9 active cases, a decrease of 1 active case since July 21. Otter Tail County reported 25 new COVID-19 cases over the last seven days; their highest total since May. No new infections in Mahnomen and Norman Counties occurred in the past week. COVID-19 data is not being released by the state on Saturdays and Sundays.

(Clay County, MN) -- We now know the name of the Mahnomen County woman that died in a crash near Glyndon late Tuesday. The Minnesota State Patrol confirming that Rebekah Joyce Knapp was driving her 2005 Buick eastbound on 28th Avenue North around 9pm when she struck a semi headed south on Highway 9 in Spring Prairie Township.
