Groveland Receives Hourly, Daytime Bus Service Today from and to Haverhill for First Time

Groveland begins receiving hourly bus service from the Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority for the first time today. Bus Route 18, which begins in Washington Square in Haverhill, now proceeds over the Groveland Bridge, formally known as the Congressman William H. Bates Veterans Memorial Bridge, into Groveland’s Elm Square after leaving Rivers Edge Plaza. The bus travels left on Main Street/Route 113 to River Pines Drive, serving town offices, Council on Aging and Langley-Adams Library, and ends at the Groveland Housing Authority.

Haverhill Exchange Club Honors Covanta, Smolaks for Flag Displays

Covanta Haverhill was selected and honored by the Haverhill Exchange Club in June for the company’s flag display and U.S. Flag Retirement Drop Box. The annual “So Proudly We Hail Awards” honors a Haverhill business or organization and a Haverhill resident who “proudly and honorably displays the American Flag on their property.” Last year, Covanta installed the flag pole with the U.S. and POW/MIA flags and flag drop off box for the public and planted red, white and blue perennial flowers at its entrance off the Ward Hill, Route 125 connector.

Canery and Eaton Join Athletics’ Coaching Staff at Northern Essex Community College

Malaquias Canery and Richie Eaton have joined the Northern Essex Community College coaching staff for the upcoming year. Canery will serve as women’s basketball coach while Eaton takes over the reins of the men’s and women’s golf program. Canery was born and raised in Lawrence and attended Clinton, N.Y., High School, where he graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer before moving on to play four seasons at Clarkson University. Eaton, a Hudson, N.H., native, comes to Northern Essex with five years of experience in the golf industry.

Massachusetts Nonprofit Network Honors Emmaus’ Murphy with Excellence in Leadership Award

Emmaus’ CEO Jeanine Murphy was recently awarded the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network’s 2022 Excellence in Leadership Award. Murphy, along with more than 120 professionals, was nominated earlier this spring for one of the six Excellence awards. She was then named a finalist and presented the award at Nonprofit Network’s annual award celebration on June 22.

215th Army Band Performs Free Concert Thursday in Haverhill

The 215th Army Band is having a special two-hour performance in Haverhill this Thursday. The collaboration of Veterans Northeast Outreach Center, Haverhill Veterans Services, Haverhill Veterans Council, City of Haverhill and Mayor James J. Fiorentini, were instrumental in securing the free concert for July 7, at 6 p.m., at Haverhill’s Riverside Park.
