There was a triple regional track meet in Newcastle over the weekend with the 1A, 2A, and 3A East holding their big event in Weston County. In 1A girls, Jordan Stoddard had a phenomenal meet with wins in 4 events, the 100-meter dash in 12.92, the 200 meters in 26.50, the high jump at 5-3, and the long jump at 18-5. In the rest of the 1A girl's track events, Natalie Speckner of Lingle-Fort Laramie won the 800 in 2.38.61 and the 1600 meter run in 6.14.07, Kaycee's Karcee Maya won 3 events, the 400 meters in 1.01.79, the 100 hurdles in 17.18 plus the 300 hurdles in 49.14. In the 1A girl's relays, Southeast won the 4x100, Lingle won the 4x400, and the 1600 medley with Hulett winning the 4x800. In the rest of the field events, Shelby Ekwall of Southeast won both of the throwing events with a toss of 41-1 in the shot put and 101-10 in the discus. Jerrica Caylor of Upton cleared 9 feet even to win the pole vault and Southeast's Angie Logsdon went 32-4.25 to win the triple jump. Lingle was in first place in the team standings with 169 points, Southeast 2nd with 154, and Upton 3rd with 105.5.
Two dispatch centers — one run by the Sheriff’s office and another by the Newcastle Police Department — are on the horizon for Weston County. The Board of Weston County Commissioners voted on May 2 in favor of a dispatch center operated by the Weston County sheriff. According to Deputy County Attorney Jeani Stone, the sheriff will operate the center, while interested agencies work toward a joint powers board.

The first election day of 2022 will be May 3 when both the Weston County Hospital District and Weston County Museum District hold their special district elections. “All qualified voters are eligible to vote.
