Ex-boyfriend charged after holding woman at knifepoint

UTICA, NY – Utica police officers assisted a woman with a potentially deadly situation on Oneida Street after her ex-boyfriend appeared to be ready to kill her with a knife on Monday. At approximately 12:30 pm, Utica Police units responded to a menacing with a knife incident at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Oneida Street. She was greeted upon arrival by a party who informed her that her ex-boyfriend had knocked on her door. She opened the door and saw the male point a knife at her chest and threaten her. Richfield Springs Discusses Changing Its School Mascot

Richfield Springs Central School District has begun a look at whether to change the school mascot. Due to a recent state court decision the New York State Education Department has directed all districts with Native American mascots to switch or lose state aid. Districts have until June to say they will change and then have until 2025 to transition to a new mascot.

The Town of Winfield Board met recently to discuss new business. The Mount Markham Optimist Club spoke with the Board to request the purchase of new aluminum bleachers at the Little League and Softball fields in the Town Park. The Board approved a resolution for the purchase of the four bleachers at a cost of $6,808.

Colleen Kain Martin has been named the 2023 Utica Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal for the upcoming parade on March 11. In a statement, parade officials pointed to Martin's many contributions to the Irish community, including serving as past vice president of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, a provincial delegate of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, and local branch secretary of Craobh Dugan O'Looney.

UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) –the City of Utica and Mohawk Valley Health System are coming together to redevelop the St. Elizabeth Campus in South Utica. The city’s industrial development agency and MVHS have agreed to share the cost of hiring a consultant team. With assistance from Mohawk Valley, the city has put out a request for proposals to find a specialized firm with knowledge in the areas of urban planning, landscape architecture, market analysis, civil engineering and environmental remediation.

UTICA, N.Y. – A Utica man is accused of threatening his ex-girlfriend with a knife at her home on Oneida Street. The victim told police her ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Zy-Aire J. Brooks-Barlow, was knocking on her door just after noon on Jan. 30. Brooks-Barlow allegedly pointed a knife at her chest and threatened her with it.
