Authorities release names of teenagers involved in fatal crash south of Burlington

Burlington, IA- Authorities have released the names of the teenagers involved in a fatal accident that occurred Saturday, August 6th, south of Burlington. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer driven by 16-year-old Carson Bennet Anderson was traveling southbound on Sullivan Slough road. The vehicle then left the roadway for an unknown reason before striking a tree.

Burlington committee eyes dissolution, allowing nonresidents to serve amid low membership

Lack of membership and desire to see a former member rejoin the council has prompted the Burlington Riverfront Advisory Committee to consider what its future will bring. “Like all committees for the city of Burlington, we are having difficulty getting people for the Riverfront Advisory Committee,” Park Superintendent Ryan Gourley told committee members Monday during the committee's quarterly meeting at City Hall.

Burlington Police Department handing out free gun locks: 'It could save a life'

The Burlington Police Department is handing out gun safety locks as part of a national initiative aimed at promoting and ensuring child and gun safety. The free locks consist of armored steel cable and keyed padlocks, with the cable preventing guns from firing by blocking gun barrels or the use of ammunition and come with brochures containing instructions on how to use the locks as well as other gun safety tips.
