The body of a woman was discovered Wednesday morning near the town of Wiederkehr Village. An Altus city official confirmed the body was found near Interstate 40 and Highway 186.

Dr. Julie Furst-Bowe, interim vice president for academic affairs at Arkansas Tech University, has appointed Dr. Gregory Michna as ATU director of general education. Michna has served on the ATU faculty since 2017 as assistant professor of history. He is a three-time graduate of Texas Woman’s University with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in history as well as a Master of Arts degree in teaching. Michna added a Doctor of Philosophy degree in history from West Virginia University in 2016.

Patsy Faye Keith, age 76, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. Patsy was born December 9, 1945, in Altus, Arkansas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She graduated from Coal Hill High School as Salutatorian and from Northeastern State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, and taught 1st grade at First Baptist. The Arkansas Department of Health will provide a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Arkansas Tech University on Wednesday, Aug. 24. The clinic will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Hull Building Student Union, 1306 N. El Paso Ave. in Russellville. Participation in the clinic is open to ATU students, faculty and staff as well as the general public.

Twenty-three new members of the Arkansas Tech University community participated in an orientation program for incoming faculty members in advance of the fall 2022 semester. Offered by the ATU Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), the stated purpose of the program is “to inform and inspire faculty who are new to Arkansas Tech University.”

Star Lowrey-LaGrone will join the University of the Ozarks faculty this fall as an instructor of health science. Lowrey-LaGrone most recently served as an adjunct faculty member teaching health courses at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. She recently completed a master’s of science in nursing degree from the University of Arkansas.

Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center has added new resources to its web presence to better serve Arkansas Tech University faculty, students, staff and guests. “Front and center-right are now the borrowing privileges and the services for the major user groups,” said Philippe Van Houtte, systems librarian at Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center. “Under that, the image carousel will include pictures of students taken in the library to illustrate the interactivity between the student body and the library.
