Fire destroys Union garage

No one was injured but a garage at a southeastern Union home was destroyed in a fire Monday. The fire was reported just after 5 p.m. in the 7700 block of Lakefield Court, near East Central College. Union Fire Protection District Chief Russell Hamilton said the two people at home were able to get out of the single-story house before firefighters arrived.

Teenage hiker dies after falling at St. Charles County park

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV) - A teenager died at Klondike Park in St. Charles County Tuesday, EMS officials told News 4. Officers were called to park in Defiance around 12:30 p.m. Police tell News 4 that two teens were hiking in a restricted area near a cliff overlooking the Katy Trail and Missouri River when one of the teens, a 17-year-old boy, lost his footing and fell.

Lion's Choice to Offer Plant-Based Option this Fall

Lion’s Choice announces that a plant-based option will be coming to its restaurant’s menus this fall. For the first time in the chain’s 55-year history, the St. Louis staple has partnered with Hungry Planet, a St. Louis-based company dedicated to creating chef-crafted, plant-based meats, for its new Plant-Based Meatball Sub. Before Lion’s Choice launches the Plant-Based Meatball Sub across all 33 restaurant locations in St. Louis, Kansas City, and parts of Illinois this fall, St. Louis guests can try the new vegetarian item at a two-day tasting event. Customers can enjoy the Plant-Based Meatball Sub made with Hungry Planet’s plant-based Italian sausage meatballs on Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at three Lion’s Choice locations: Ballwin (14919 Manchester Road), Chesterfield (17294 Chesterfield Airport Road), and Hanley (1605 S Hanley Road). The new menu item will be sold at a special promotional price for $5.99 for the sandwich (regularly $6.99) or $8.99 for the meal (regularly $9.99). The new menu items are available for purchase in-store or through the store’s drive-thru as well as through the Lion’s Choice mobile app.

Push to rename Wildwood's 'Old Slave Road' resurfaces with resident support

WILDWOOD — Residents of Old Slave Road are once again asking to change the name of their street. The winding lane off Wild Horse Creek Road was given the title when it was redeveloped in 1979, at the site of two plantations where more than 100 were enslaved before the Civil War. Many are buried in an unmarked cemetery still along the road today.

New Melle Country Market Music Festival Sept. 10

New Melle Country Market is hosting the 2nd Annual New Melle Music Festival on September 10, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Last year the Festival had over 1000 visitors, and a bigger crowd is expected this year.
