California man who wrecked semi on I80 arrested on drug charges

A California man who hung his semi up on the median cable barrier on I80 Wednesday night was arrested on an outstanding warrant and OWI charges. Authorities were alerted to the incident just after 9:45 pm and found the Freightliner semi at around the 230 mile marker. A trooper identified the driver as 37-year-old Raman Rampal of Livingston California. A check of his records showed a warrant for his arrest on a controlled substance charge out of Missouri, and he was placed under arrest.

Johnson County Public Health recommends indoor mask-wearing

Johnson County Public Health recommends indoor mask-wearing, “vaccinated or not,” in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s July 27 guidelines. Johnson County Community Health Manager Sam Jarvis told the Johnson County Board of Supervisors Wednesday morning that as of Aug. 4, the county is experiencing moderate transmission, but some surrounding communities and across the state are experiencing substantial or high transmission.

Former football player charged in Iowa hoops star's assault

A former Iowa State University football player has been arrested in connection with an assault of a University of Iowa basketball star in May. Nicholas Kron, 29, of Nashville, Tennessee, faces an assault causing bodily injury charge for allegedly attacking Jordan Bohannon, a Hawkeye guard, outside a downtown Iowa City bar. Bohannon suffered a serious head injury. Kron turned himself in Saturday, was booked into the Johnson County Jail and was released about 20 minutes later, a jail official said.

ICCSD exploring COVID-19 mitigation options for 2021-2022 school year

Washington County Revokes Pretrial Release for Mount Pleasant Man

Washington City Council Adds to City Administrator Search Committee

The Washington City Council added another person to their city administrator search committee Tuesday. During their regular meeting Mayor Jaron Rosien presented a resolution to add Council Member Elaine Moore to the committee at her request, as she expressed that she has a knowledge of the public and private sector’s needs for this position which was left by Brent Hinson this month. The committee also includes Council Member Illa Earnest as she had decades of experience working for the city, as well as Rosien, Finance Director Kelsey Brown, Police Chief Jim Lester, and City Clerk Sally Hart. The council approved that Moore be added, as Council Member Danielle Pettit-Majewski commented that if Moore has the time and desire to assist in narrowing down the applicants to go ahead. Rosien mentioned that they have so far received eight qualified applicants for the position. The deadline for applications is August 23rd, and formal interviews are anticipated for late September.
