County Fire Department Seeks Cause of Massive Fire at Abandoned Home in Annapolis

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department is looking into what caused a major fire at an abandoned home in Annapolis. Shortly after midnight on December 1, 2021, multiple 911 calls were received from motorists on Route 50 and occupants of nearby homes reporting a woods fire or electrical transformer on fire. Firefighters arrived to find an abandoned, two-story single-family home, located in the 500 block of Admiral Drive, with fire throughout the second floor and through the roof.

Update on Snake Infestation That Lead a Homeowner in Dickerson to Accidentally Burn Down Home

Earlier this week we let you know about a homeowner on the 21000 block Big Woods Rd in Dickerson that accidentally burned their home down on November 23rd. According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, the homeowner was attempting to use smoke as a way to manage a snake infestation. The hot coals being used were too close to combustible materials, causing the fire to start.

Halethorpe Man Killed In Wrong-Way Crash In Jessup

JESSUP, Md. (WJZ) — A 27-year-old man died in a wrong-way crash in Jessup Friday afternoon, Howard County Police said. Police said around 1:15 p.m., Alberto Rivera-Lopez of Halethorpe was driving north on Dorsey Run Road near Patuxent Range Road when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another car. Rivera-Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the second car was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Dorsey Run Road was closed for about four hours. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Nine people were taken to a nearby hospital, two with serious injuries, following a two-alarm fire in Fairfax County Thursday evening. The Fairfax County Fire/Rescue responded to an apartment fire in the 800 block of Park Avenue in Herndon around 5:35 p.m. While en route, rescue crews were told residents were jumping out of the third-story windows. Fire department officials said a mother and three young children even rescued themselves by tying bedsheets together and climbing down the self-made rope; three other residents were saved via ladder by firefighters.
