Deputies seek help identifying Fort Calhoun theft suspect

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in identifying a potential suspect in thefts that occurred in Fort Calhoun. The thefts occurred during the night of June 13. Three unknown people in a newer white four-door Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck broke into several vehicles and stole several items, including credit cards, tools, jewelry and other items. Two vehicles were also stolen.

County basketball players victorious at Warrior Classic

Abbie Anderson's Warrior Classic all-star basketball team won a 23-point rout Saturday night at the Wikert Event Center in Fremont. Aiden Foreman and Brant Hilzendeger's, meanwhile, had to play overtime on the campus of Midland University. The Washington County hoopers' Dark squad was victorious over the Light, though, 97-95. “I thought it was a good game,” said Hilzendeger, a Fort Calhoun graduate and future Warrior. “Fun atmosphere.”

Lori Lynn Erdman, 51

Lori Lynn Erdman (Schneider), age 51, of Chalco, passed away on June 17, 2021. Lori was born on Sept. 12, 1969, to Dean and Nina Schneider in Fort Calhoun. After grade school at Wranch School in rural Washington County, Lori attended and graduated from high school in Fort Calhoun. She went on to attain a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting and Marketing at Midland University (Midland College) in Fremont.

The Blair Diamonds age 12 and younger softball team won its District 8 Tournament on Sunday at the Blair Youth Softball Association Complex. The Diamonds went 6-0, defeating the Fremont Force, WDSA Gold, Kelly's Fastpitch, the Tekamah-Herman Tigers, and Calvary 12U twice. They defeated Calvary in the championship game, 6-5. Two more Washington County teams participated in the 23-team, three-day tourney in Blair. The 11U Omaha Lady Diamonds went 0-2 Saturday with a 4-2 loss to the Calvary and a 11-1 defeat to the Fremont Force.
