A strong cold front will pass through the region by Monday, bringing additional chances for needed rain and a brief break from the heat across south central Iowa. The Warren County GOP held a town hall forum Thursday evening, discussing the City of Indianola and other local organizations and businesses’ support of the 21 Day Equity Challenge. The 21 Day Equity Challenge is a program that will take place from October 5th through November 2nd, with the intention of developing a deeper understanding of how inequity and racism affect our lives and our community. The town hall meeting was moderated by Tamara Scott with a presentation by author Dr. Stephen Kirby, who argued, among other items, that there is no systemic racism in the United States.

Warren County Supervisors, E911, and Emergency Management Meet in Joint Session

The Warren County Board of Supervisors met in joint session with the Warren County Emergency Management Commission and Warren County E911 Board, discussing the transfer of the Warren County Dispatch, Management, and Budget from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office to the Warren County Emergency Management Commission. Drought Spreading Across Iowa

Drought conditions are rapidly spreading and intensifying across south central Iowa. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor Report shows Marion County and most of Warren County in Moderate Drought conditions, with Severe Drought spreading into northwest Warren and most of Polk Counties. Moderate conditions are now reported in most of Lucas, Jasper, and Mahaska Counties as well. Chances for scattered storms will persist into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service, with the next best opportunity coming Sunday afternoon and evening as a strong cold front pushes through the area.

The Indianola Mayor’s Youth Council is hosting Bike Fest 2021: Pedal Palooza! tomorrow morning, an event promoting bicycle safety and fun for Indianola kids. The event will include educational events such as how to cross a street safely and the importance of helmets and other safety equipment, as well as prizes given out throughout the event. Those attending can also bring food and personal care items to donate to the Helping Hand of Warren County. Bike Fest 2021 will take place at Irving Elementary Saturday from 10am to noon, with the KNIA Big Red Radio on location playing music and making announcements.

The Warren County Historical Society is holding their annual garage sale fundraiser today and tomorrow at their facility, raising funds for the Warren County Historical Society Museum and other areas. The Warren County Historical society maintains the historical and genealogical library, seven-building Heritage Village and country store, Mt. Hope School, the South River Quaker Meeting House, Church, Log Cabin, and George Washington Carver Museum. Dry Conditions Rapidly Spreading Cross Region

A long stretch of dry weather is starting to have an impact locally. According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor Report, Marion County is once again rated as abnormally dry and the northern third of Warren County is now in moderate drought. All of south central Iowa, mainly south of Highway 92, is also abnormally dry, and drought has expanded to all of Polk and most of Jasper Counties. No rainfall has been recorded locally in June thus far, and a stretch of well-above average temperatures that has settled into the region since the beginning of the month is expected to continue for the next few weeks. Conditions are expected to persist for some time into the summer , according to the National Climate Prediction Center, as no significant precipitation is in the forecast for several weeks.

Indianola City Council Moves Process Forward on Golf Carts
