Vt. National Guard soldier rescues young boy who fell through ice

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A Vermont National Guard soldier is being called a hero following the Christmas morning rescue of a family member. “It was family, so it was really an adrenaline-inducing situation, but I felt, we have a big rule that ‘your emergency is not my emergency’ and we were able to kind of step back and take a little bit bigger view of what was going on and try to limit the amount of people that were going to get hurt,” said Staff Sgt. John Hampson.

Middlebury Downs Springfield 220-77 On Senior Day

The Middlebury women's swimming and diving defeated Springfield 220-77 at home on Sunday. Prior to the start of competition, the Panthers honored seniors Gabby Bianco, Emma Borrow, Courtney Gantt, Audrey Hsi, Maddie McKean, Olivia Rieur, Lucy Townend, and Hannah Wander. Middlebury will be on the road next Saturday when it heads to Williams for a tri-meet with Hamilton.

Hardwick woman dies in hospital following three-car crash

WALDEN, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermont State Police say a woman involved in a three-car crash last Monday has died from injuries she got in the accident. Police say it happened on Jan. 10 just before 9 a.m. on Route 15. They say the roads were slick and wet at the time.

Massachusetts Man Sentenced for Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that on January 11, 2022, Tahj McCormick, 25, of Springfield, Massachusetts, was sentenced in United States District Court in Burlington, Vermont, to serve 60 months in prison after his guilty plea to one count of being a previously convicted felon found in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Christina Reiss also ordered McCormick to serve a three (3) year term of supervised release and to pay a $100 special assessment.

(WCAX) - This weekend’s cold snap created issues from burst water pipes to frozen at-home antigen tests. “We signed up for the program and they sent them really quickly,” Amber Byrne of Johnson said. “Unfortunately, they sent them on the coldest day of the year. They were frozen because there are only three or four drops of liquid in here.”
