Evaluating the Virginia men’s basketball roster heading into 2021-22

With Trey Murphy getting picked 17th overall in the 2021 NBA draft, the 2021-2022 Virginia Cavaliers men’s basketball roster is essentially set in stone. The transfer season is just about over, and while there’s always the slim possibility of a late class of 2022 commit re-classing to join the ‘Hoos in the fall, that’s unlikely to be of any significant impact for this upcoming season.

Guess 'Hoos back: why I chose to return to Charlottesville to cover Virginia sports

I had just left Bronco Mendenhall's first press conference as Virginia football's new head coach. It was bittersweet because I was saying goodbye. After cutting my teeth in reporting in Charlottesville, working for Scout Media, I was set to move to Gainesville, Florida to cover the Florida Gators and the SEC. I had some amazing memories from my first beat, including following Virginia basketball's journey to its first ACC Tournament crown since 1976 in 2014.

Georgia Tech Football: Opponent Previews - Virginia

The ACC’s COVID altered schedule meant that Georgia Tech did not face UVA on the football field for the first time since 1981. The series has been back and forth recently, with each team winning two of the last four matchups. Virginia enters Bronco Mendenhall’s fifth season as head coach, and the former BYU coach has certainly stabilized a program that had been in decline under Mike London. The ‘Hoos did take a step back in 2020 after Bryce Perkins captained the team to a combined 17 wins in 2018-2019. With a roster that ranks only 93rd in Bill Connelly’s returning production metric, are they looking at more of the same in 2021?
