St. Joseph woman injured after driver falls asleep behind the wheel in Buchanan County

BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo. — A St. Joseph woman was injured in a Buchanan County accident Monday morning. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Wesley H. Darnell, 18, of St. Joseph, was driving northbound on Interstate-29 at MM around 12:05 a.m. He fell asleep behind the wheel, traveled off the west side of the roadway, returned to the road, overcorrected, left the east side of the roadway and overturned. Darnell’s passenger, Megan M. Schussler, 18, also of St. Joseph, was moderately injured and transported by private vehicle to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph for treatment.

Sedalia Man Injured in One-vehicle JoCo Rollover

A Sedalia man was injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Saturday night in Johnson County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a southbound 1994 Ford Ranger, driven by Leovigildo Marcos Lazaro of Sedalia, was on Route D, north of Route V at 7:55 p.m., when it traveled off the roadway, then back on the road. The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver was ejected and the Ford came to rest off the west side of the road.

3 men escape from SW Missouri jail

PINEVILLE, Mo. (AP) — Authorities are searching for three men who escaped from a jail in southwest Missouri after allegedly attacking an officer. The McDonald County Sheriff’s office in Pineville, Missouri said David Molina, 49; Carmelo Miguel Burgos, 27; and Shun’tavion Ladarrias Thomas, 23; escaped from the jail around 5 p.m. Saturday. Pineville is about 190 miles south of Kansas City.
