Students volunteer at Caring Center

Vince Perona, teacher of eighth grade American History, and his students made their first appearance at the St. James Caring Center Commodity Day. What a blessing to have students assist with pushing heavily ladened grocery carts of nutritious food to patiently waiting clients. In the past, it was a struggle for volunteers to maneuver the carts and empty them into vehicles. Regular access to civic-engagement opportunities can lead to better outcomes for children, young adults, and their communities. Youth who volunteer are more likely to perform better in school and work and become civically active adults.

The entire community is invited to come and help them celebrate this evening from 5 to 8 o’ clock in the Crocker City Park. Enjoy free hot dogs, popcorn, soft drinks, and cash prizes. And, to top it all off, there will be a fireworks display in the park at dark. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs and blankets.
