Birmingham woman dies in single-vehicle crash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A Birmingham woman died after the vehicle she was driving left the road and struck a bridge column at 7:11 a.m. Tuesday. Officials said Chineka McCall, 42, died at the scene. The accident was reported near mile marker 144 on I-20, one mile west of Moody.

Leeds Police officer recovers 953 pounds of marijuana in drug bust

LEEDS, Ala. (WBRC) - A traffic stop at a Walgreens in Leeds led to a 953 pound marijuana bust Tuesday morning. Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin said on January 18, 2022 at 7:30 a.m., Officer Turnbloom with the Leeds Police Department made a traffic stop at the Walgreens at 1832 Ashville Road Leeds, Alabama. The officer made contact with defendants Quan Xu 32, of Mountain House, California, and Huaitian Li, 27, of Los Angeles, California, and recovered 953 lbs of marijuana. Both suspects are being held at the St. Clair County Jail on a $1.5M bond each for trafficking marijuana.

Freezing rain, snow possible in Alabama Wednesday through Friday

Alabama could face not one but several rounds of winter mischief this week along with some of the coldest air of the winter, according to the National Weather Service. The first round could arrive on Wednesday and last into Thursday as a strong cold front moves through the state. The front could generate rain and a few storms. Cold air will be right behind it, and the rain could transition briefly to freezing rain in the northern part of the state, according to the weather service.

Man’s charge upped to capital murder after woman dies 9 months following Birmingham shooting

Charges have been increased against a 60-year-old man in connection with a 2021 shooting in which the victim died nine months after she was wounded. Richard Olds is now charged with capital murder in the slaying of 41-year-old Patricia Joann Stisher, according to court records made public Tuesday. The shooting happened Feb. 26, and Stisher died Nov. 25 at UAB Hospital.

Birmingham Police make arrest in 2021 homicide; the woman died 9 months after she was shot

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Birmingham Police Department made an arrest in a 2021 homicide investigation. The shooting occurred on Friday, February 26, 2021. At 2:55 p.m., North Precinct Officers responded to the Marathon Gas Station located at 3401 26th Avenue North on a call of a person shot. The victim, 41-year-old Patricia Stisher, was wounded by gunfire. Stisher was taken to the hospital, treated and later released.
