Police Chief's Desk

The Glasgow Police Department relies on the community to be their eyes and ears on the streets. Officers can only be in one place at a time and they rely heavily upon the community for assistance. Your police department would like to take time to inform the public about how calls for service are received and weighted when it comes to the judicial process and officer response.

Letters to the Editor For June 9, 2021

Welcome to Glasgow! I grew up in Valley County, but have lived in Michigan 37 years. You had an editorial about how people reacted to news. My advice: Tell the facts. Let people make their own opinions. State the lake level is up (or down). Don't state that it is because of Global warming, or because of which party is in charge of state legislature. People can figure it out. Our local Michigan "Paper" is very Left opinionated and all issue "articles" mirror political talking points. The locals don't agree, and readership has plummeted. They don't take letters to the editor anymore, as too many of them disagreed with the editor.

In Brief

Thursday, May 13 ws another successful Valley County Free Tree Day. Resilient friends, supporters and volunteers turned out to get in on the action. One thousand seedlings in the five different varieties of trees were handed out, again in record time. A little over two hours depleted the supply. What a great project. Be proud of what you can to beautify the community. Signed, Linda Sibley.

Valley County Burn Ban Lifted

The three Valley County Commissioners have lifted the burn ban, allowing farmers to burn their fields with a permit from the fire department. “A burn ban means we won't give any permits for burning,” said Chairman John Fahlgren. “With our recent rains, we've had people call us with situations where it looks like a totally safe thing to do. When we lift the burn ban, what happens is they still have to get approval through dispatch.”

Community ire over the recent disbanding of the former Valley County Refuse District Board was on full display during the April 28 County Commissioner meeting.
