'White power' flyers distributed around downtown Columbia over the weekend, Ball says

BALTIMORE -- "White power" flyers were distributed around Lake Kittamaqundi in downtown Columbia over the weekend, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said.The Howard County Police Department is investigating the "hate bias" incident and is aware of similar flyers in other states, Ball's office said."Incidents of hate and discrimination toward anyone in our community will not be tolerated," Ball said. "In Howard County, we value very individual and believe that our diversity is our greatest strength. The actions of few who wish to divide us wish to divide us will never be stronger than our commitment to a safe, inclusive community for all."

Police: Silver Spring Teen Missing Since Monday

Montgomery County Police are asking for the public’s help locating a Silver Spring teen who has been missing since Monday. Imani Trenice Williams was last seen in the 13100 block of Collingwood Terrace in Silver Spring on Monday, August 8, according to MCPD. Williams is 5 feet, 1 inch tall, and weighs about 135 pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair with burgundy highlights, styled in braids with charms. She also wears black glasses. It is unknown what she was last seen wearing. She may be carrying a multi-colored backpack and a teal rolling backpack.

Bethesda residents, business owners worry about late-night crime increase

It was around 2:30 a.m. July 23 when someone threw a rock through the glass front door of Smoke BBQ on Cordell Avenue in downtown Bethesda, according to co-owner Susan Lennon. The culprit left shortly after that, but a half hour later another person smashed the rest of the glass and might have stolen some beer off the shelves.

Residents Asked to Shelter in Place on Olney Mill Road Due to Police Activity
