Upshur County authorities searching for missing Laporte man

UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a Laporte man last seen in Gilmer. The sheriff’s office said in a press release Sunday that Corey Dean Williams, 30, of Laporte was last seen Wednesday at a friend’s house in Gilmer. His car, a 1995 white Mercury Cougar was found off Azalea Road in Upshur County near Highway 154, east of Gilmer. Williams was described as wearing a neon yellow shirt and blue jeans. He has the letter “C” tattooed between his thumb and index finger and the letter “W” between his thumb and index finger on his left hand. He has a large red and green rose tattoo on his right chest.

Upshur County Man Missing

Upshur County deputies are searching for a Laporte man last seen last week. Thirty-year-old Corey Dean Williams was last seen Wednesday at a friend’s house in Gilmer. His car, a 1995 white Mercury Cougar was found off Azalea Road in Upshur County near Highway 154, east of Gilmer. The sheriff’s office said they do consider Williams’ disappearance suspicious.

Gilmer Man Indicted On Child Porn Charges

A federal grand jury indicted an Upshur County man accused of producing child pornography. They charged 19-year-old Chandler Elvin Owens of Gilmer with attempted sexual exploitation of children, transportation of child pornography, and possession of child pornography. The court ordered him to remain in custody until his trial.

Eight life sentences upheld in child indecency case

GILMER — The 6th Court of Appeals in Texarkana has upheld a term of eight life sentences in an Upshur County child indecency case. According to officials, Thomas Auld was found guilty last year of eight counts of indecency with a child by contact. The child victim, 12 years old at the time of the trial, described abuse against her when she was 10 and 11 years old. Officials say Auld knew the victim. Officials say the sentences took into account “the egregious facts of this case plus the prior criminal history of the defendant.”

Petition To Remove Upshur County District Clerk

Some have a petition to remove Upshur County District Clerk Karen Bunn from office. The Longview News Journal reports the petition claims Bunn has consistently failed to process filings, including civil, criminal properly, warrant information, and invoices for court-appointed attorneys on civil and child protective service cases. Three lawyers, David Griffith, Matthew R. Patton, and Brandon Winn, signed the petition as plaintiffs.

Longview ISD plans to make bus routes more efficient

Attorneys file petition to remove Upshur County district clerk from office. “Throughout the majority of Defendant’s term of office, Defendant failed or refused to be present in her office at the Upshur County Justice Center and neglected her duties as District Clerk,” the petition states. ”What these attorneys are not aware of is my doctors have not released me to even go back to work,” District Clerk Karen Bunn said.
