Upshur County jury sentences man to 8 life terms for molesting 2 girls

GILMER, Texas (KLTV) - An Upshur County jury sentenced a 37-year-old to eight life sentences in connection with allegations that he molested two young girls. The jury passed down eight life sentences after they found Thomas Alana Auld guilty on eight counts of indecency with a child, according to a post on the Upshur County Criminal District Attorney’s Facebook page. Testimony in the jury trial started on Wednesday.

UPSHUR COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO EIGHT (8) LIFE SENTENCES

An Upshur County Jury has returned a maximum sentence of eight (8) Life sentences with each sentence carrying a$10,000.00 Fine against a 37-year-old man, Thomas Alan Auld (W/M, D.O.B. 04/20/1984), for eight separate counts ofIndecency With a Child committed against a 10 year-old female relative. The Jury began hearing testimony Wednesdayof this week and after a two-day trial, returned a verdict of guilty for all eight counts contained in the Indictment. Thenafter hearing evidence in Punishment, the Jury assessed the maximum sentence at Life in prison.

Eight life sentences in child indecency case

GILMER — Following a two-day trial and a guilty verdict, an Upshur County jury has returned a maximum punishment of eight life sentences against 37-year-old Thomas Alan Auld for eight counts of indecency with a child. Each sentence carries a $10,000 fine. The victim was a 10-year-old female relative. Officials say the charge is normally a second degree felony but Auld has already served time for burglary and stealing food stamps. The District Attorney’s Office filed a notice to enhance punishment because of the prior offenses.

Gohmert to headline MAGA rally in Gilmer

GILMER — A Make America Great Again rally is set for the Gilmer Civic Center starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, sponsored by the Republican Party of Upshur County. Featured speakers are Congressmen Louie Gohmert and Pat Fallon. State Representative Jay Dean and state Senator Bryan Hughes are also expected, pending the status of the special session in Austin. Gohmert tells KTBB it’s “absolutely imperative” to meet constituents on their home ground. He says, “I see people that don’t go home on the weekends, and they do lose touch, because…we have common sense abounding all over East Texas — and up here in Washington, it’s just called sense.”

Because of recent cases of COVID 19, the Upshur County jail has restricted which suspects it will book into jail. Arrests will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis when it comes to the need to book a suspect into the jail. Suspects in violent crimes will continue to be incarcerated. Letter: Paying last respects

I am the district attorney for Upshur County and pastor of Oak Hill Baptist Church. On July 1, we lost Deputy Marc Rider, who leaves behind a wife and two children. I had the honor of preaching this service in Longview at New Beginnings Church. The funeral procession to the cemetery in Upshur County was one of the most moving experiences I have been a part of. I salute all of our local law enforcement heroes from Upshur, Gregg and surrounding counties that came to support their fallen brother. I also thank the Longview Fire Department for posting the American flag on the ladder trucks for the family to drive under in remembrance of Marc’s service .

Upshur County Detective Dies Unexpectedly

Upshur County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the death of a CID Investigator. Marc Rider collapsed shortly after arriving home from work Thursday evening and died a short time later at the hospital. He leaves behind a wife and two children. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Tuesday afternoon (Jul 6) at New Beginnings Baptist Church in Longview.

GILMER — Marcus Eugene Rider, 46 of Gilmer, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 in Longview. Marc was born in Nashville, Tennessee on November 29, 1974. Marc attended and graduated from Pine Tree High School and the East Texas Police Academy. He started his career in law enforcement as a jailor for the Gregg County Sheriff’s Department in 1993, he moved to Gilmer and served the city of Gilmer from March of 2006, until August of 2014, he continued to serve the citizens of Upshur County working for the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office from August of 2014 to present.

Upshur County investigator passes away after collapsing

UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas — An Upshur County investigator has died after collapsing at home. According to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, CID Investigator Marc Rider collapsed shortly after arriving home from work. Rider was transported to a local hospital where he later died. Funeral arrangements are still being finalized.
