Height, density increased at proposed Vermella site

The ordinance (O-32-22), introduced in August and approved in September, amends the Central Business District Redevelopment Plan to revise standards for the CBD-3 Subdistrict. City Administrator Jacqueline Foushee said in a telephone interview last week that the measure was introduced to pursue recommendations within the downtown strategic plan as well as support the proposed development.

A brutal attack on a woman at a Queens train station used by many to get to one of NYC's airports was caught on camera. The victim said that a homeless man came up to her out of nowhere while she was on her way to work at the airport on Sept. 20. Elizabeth Gomes was at the Howard Beach/JFK Airport train and subway station and said the man first tried talking to her, then followed her for a while — before slamming her into the wall and throwing her to the ground before he started mercilessly punching and kicking her.

1 killed, 1 wounded in West Orange shooting

One man was killed and another wounded Tuesday afternoon when shots rang out in a West Orange neighborhood, authorities said. Corington Valentin, 21, of Newark, was shot about 3:20 p.m. in the 100 block of Watson Avenue, according to acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and West Orange Police Chief James Abbott.

Teenager arrested for shooting that left man dead in Newark, NJ

NEWARK — A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with the recent fatal shooting of an Irvington man, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. Kyle Eley, 50, was found suffering from gunshot wounds on the corner of South Orange Avenue and Munn Avenue in Newark on September 14. He was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
