Riverview's newest dairy, Waukon Dairy, is milking 10,500 cows per day and using local feeds

GARY, Minnesota — Waukon Dairy, a subsidiary of Riverview LLP, since June has been milking 10,500 cows daily in rural Norman County, Minnesota. The dairy, which is located on 160 acres in Waukon Township, eight miles southeast of Gary, Minnesota, began milking June 20, 2022, 15 months after construction began on the facility. Riverview LLP construction manager Lyle Grimm declined to estimate the cost of the dairy construction.

Twin Valley City Council News & Notes from August 8th Meeting

Twin Valley, MN — The Twin Valley City Council held their regular monthly meeting on Monday night, August 8th at the Twin Valley Community Center. At the meeting, it was made known that the water tower would be down for repainting sometime around the end of the month or early next month. Twin Valley Ben Fall says it shouldn’t impact residents, but they are making plans for certain situations should the need arise.

Glyndon, MN — The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels Fishing Team welcomes all to support the team at a fundraiser this Wednesday night from 5pm to 7:30pm at the Buffalo River Speedway in Glyndon. The fundraiser will include a fish feed, silent auction, raffles, live music from Matt Aakre, and fun family games. FireFrost ATV Club Fuels Momentum with Recent Grant Awards. Halstad, MN — The grants continue to fuel momentum for western Norman County’s FireFrost ATV Club and their quest to develop a multi-use trail from Nielsville to Perley, MN. The club earlier this summer received grants from Polaris and Yamaha that brought in $25,000, but just recently were able to secure annual assistance from the Minnesota DNR, plus a grant from the Federal Recreation Trail Program, which will provide the club with $150,000 in funding, according to club member Lucas Spaeth.

The time a high school guidance counselor built a Viking ship to sail to Norway

Robert Asp dreamed of building and sailing a Viking ship as a way to connect with his Norwegian heritage. He read several books on the subject while recovering from a broken leg after a fall. Once recovered, he began working on the ship in earnest. Asp chose for his ship the name Hjemkomst, a Norwegian word that means homecoming, and set his plan to sail the Atlantic Ocean into action.

Mahnomen City Council Receives MN DOT Planning Grant; Plus News & Notes from August 1st Meeting

Mahnomen, MN — The Mahnomen City Council held their first regular monthly meeting for August on Monday, August 1st at the Mahnomen Fire Hall. At the meeting, it was announced that the city will be awarded a Minnesota Department of Transportation Grant. Mahnomen City Administrator Kari Kirschbaum says this research and development grant will provide the city with a comprehensive plan for the city in regards to trails, sidewalks, and crossings along Highway 59.

Ada, MN — The Ada City Council held their regular monthly meeting this Wednesday night, August 3rd. The meeting was held a day later than usual to make room for National Night Out on Tuesday. At the meeting, the council discussed and approved a land purchase request from the Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home. Ada Mayor John Hintz says they are looking to expand their parking, but would need to purchase a portion of the city cemetery to do so.
